Introduction about TANNA

Tanzania National Nurses Association (TANNA) formerly known as Tanzania Registered Nurses Association (TARENA) is a professional association founded in 1971 as a nonpartisan nongovernmental Nurses Association (Organization) committed to promoting and safeguarding the rights, welfare, and professional development of nurses in Tanzania.

Vision

A vibrant, reputable association representing all professional nurses advancing their welfare and promoting excellence in nursing and healthcare.

Mission

To advocate for nurses, promote excellence in nursing practice, and influence health policy for better healthcare outcomes.

The Tanzania National Nurses Association (TANNA) stands as the unifying professional body for nurses and midwives in Tanzania, promoting excellence in nursing practice, education, and leadership. Through collaboration with the Ministry of Health, professional councils, academic institutions, and development partners, TANNA continues to build a strong nursing workforce capable of addressing the country’s evolving health needs.

The 2025 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference, to be held in Ruvuma Region from 26-28 November 2025, provides a unique platform for nurses and midwives to engage in meaningful dialogue, scientific exchange, and strategic reflection on the profession’s progress and future direction. This year’s conference aims to strengthen the role of nurses and midwives as leaders, researchers, and innovators, driving sustainable health outcomes and contributing to national health priorities, including Universal Health Coverage (UHC), quality improvement, and community-centered care.
